A is ～er than any other… Aは他のどの…よりも～

英語をスムーズに話せるようになるため、中学英語からやり直し学習をしています。英文法を復習して基本を押さえながら、土台をしっかり固めていくのが目標です。今回は中学英文法の「その他の比較」について復習していきます。

《課題文》

・Ken can run faster than any other boy.
　ケンは、他のどの男の子よりも速く走れる。

・No other boy can run faster than Ken.
　ほかのどの男の子もケンより速く走ることができない。

《解説》

● 「Aは他のどの…よりも～だ」は比較級を使って次の形で表します。
A is ＋ 比較級 ＋ than any other ＋ 単数名詞

Jane is taller than anyother girl.
ジェ一ンは他のどの少女より背が高いです。

● この文は最上級を使った文と同じ内容を表します。
''Jane is the allest of all the girls.
''
● 次の形でも同じ内容を表すことができます。
No other girl is taller than Jane.
他のどの少女もジェーンより背が高くない。

● Nothing is ＋ 比較級 ＋ than ～. の形も同じです。
Nothing is harder than diamond.
ダイヤモンドよりかたいものはない。

● 次のように as ～ as を使っても同様です。
Nothing is as hard as diamond.
